A Stucki Reunion to Treasure!
We just returned from the 2008 Stucki Reunion and just have to say how wonderful it was! Jason Stucki was in charge and he must have been praying for at least six months for it to be a wonderful event, because everything went perfectly!
Saturday, August 30, was a beautiful, sunny August day with temperatures so warm that a nice cool lake and water slide were welcomed greatly! Treasure Mountain Camp Ground provided the setting, and all who were there for the day's activity couldn't stop smiling about it! There was the huge blow-up water slide, canoes, kayaks, fishing, swimming, fun! Dinner was great, and then the clouds started to come in.... but most of us got to bed before the rain began to fall. I slept quite well, and in fact, had some fun dreams of flash flooding, and imagined water dripping on my face throughout the night. As the heavy downpour stopped, I dreamed that it continued lightly, but in the morning found that it was just the sound of the creek cascading right behind my tent!
Sunday we awoke to clear skies and sunshine! A hearty walk up the hill brought us to the amphitheater with panoramic views that were breathtaking! Between the views and the walk up the hill, one cousin said that if it took our breaths away sufficiently, perhaps the testimony meeting wouldn't be so long! We had approximately 100 in attendance! We all were so happy to have our first generation aunts and uncles sitting on the front row; Grant, Merrill & Lucy, Delos & Betty, Don & Yvonne, with our thoughts expressed of missing those who couldn't be with us. The testimony was, as usual, excellent, wonderful, emotional, and every good adjective you can imagine for such an occasion. The sun beat down, and not only was the meeting heartwarming, but face warming, head warming, arm, legs, back, etc.! We sang our testimonies as Aunt Yvonne led us in several hymns to express our appreciation for our setting, our heritage, our blessings...
We dined like royalty on our usual Sunday fare of chicken, potato dishes, Utah peaches, salads, rolls, desserts; all the traditional recipes and some new ones added! The winners of the dessert contest were announced..... a drum roll please.... Marci Reddish in 1st place with her Trifle.... Teresa Velasquez with her apple pie.... and Sheri Kunkel with a cake (made with the help of her friend, Joe Albertson). She and Barb Wood had quite the discussion about the fact that Barb's cake was better, but she didn't know she could enter hers, as she also had received help with the baking from her friend, Sam Walton. (Yes, that would Joe, of Albertson's grocery store and Sam of Sam's Club!) As lunch time came and went, the rain appeared and continued throughout the day. But that was OKAY! We enjoyed our time in the lodge with crafts and games, followed by the adult meeting and auction. Adam Velasquez was moved from vice pres. to President for 2009, and Russell Wood was elected as vice pres. for 2009. The auction saw some good bidding and we believe enough money was raised to about cover this year's expenses! More food was brought out, in case anyone was starving.... and we enjoyed our dinner of leftovers before preparing for the Talent Show: What a talented family we have! We didn't get to hear Kay and Efrain do their rendition of Amazing Grace this year, there's always next year.... but we did have yodeling by Uncle Grant! We also heard Goldilocks and the 3 Bears in Spanish by Gary Stucki, some awesome musical numbers by many Stucki cousins, Uncle Don & Aunt Yvonne sang their duet... every talent a great blessing!
Who knows when everyone got to bed that night? We enjoyed an evening of games and visiting, with some hesitation to head out to our cold, damp tents and cabins. It was a cold, dark night.... but made for some lasting memories! WE CAN HARDLY WAIT TO SEE YOU ALL NEXT YEAR! Put Labor Day Weekend 2009 on your calendars now!
